Jongno-gu will hold a reenactment of a traditional patrol ceremony in central Seoul on Sundays and public holidays this spring and fall, the district office said Sunday.
According to the Jongno District Office, the sumunjang sunra ceremony, or royal guard patrol reenactment, will take place at 3 p.m. from March to May and again from September to November. The event will start at Gwanghwamun Woldae and proceed through Insadong Culture Street.
The program recreates the patrol activities of sunragun, soldiers who were responsible for maintaining security inside and outside the royal palace and the capital during the Joseon era (1392-1910). The ceremony traces its origins to the Haengsun provision on capital patrols recorded in the military section of the Joseon legal code, Gyeongguk Daejeon.
The procession will conclude at Bukinsa Madang near Anguk Station on Subway Line No. 3, Exit No. 6. After the ceremony, visitors will be able to take commemorative photos with the patrol guards.
